The house where the Banks family lives in the show is available for rent via Airbnb, for $30 a night, for 30 days. One of television’s most recognizable homes is poised to enter the real estate market for the first time in nearly half a century. The mansion featured as the exterior of the Banks family residence in the beloved 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is expected to be listed for just under $30 million.

Built in 1937, the Georgian Colonial-style estate sits in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. The property spans roughly 10,000 square feet and occupies a 38,510-square-foot lot. It includes six bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms.

Despite the show’s title, the iconic house has never been located in Bel-Air. Instead, it stands well west of that neighborhood in Brentwood, an area long associated with privacy and high-profile residents.

A Landmark in Television History

The exterior of the home was used throughout The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to represent the opulent estate of Philip and Vivian Banks. Cast members, including Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro, helped make the home an enduring symbol of the series during its six-season run on NBC from 1990 until 1996.

“The exterior façade of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a globally recognized Georgian Colonial estate, will be offered for sale,” said a promotional post from The Altman Brothers, the luxury real estate team handling the listing.

Interior scenes on the sitcom were filmed on a soundstage, but the Brentwood mansion quickly became inseparable from the show’s cultural identity. Over the years, fans have flocked to see the property’s familiar columns and grand entrance, featured in the show’s opening credits.

In 2020, Will Smith partnered with Airbnb to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary by offering fans a chance to stay in a curated wing of the house. Smith posted on social media, “YOOOO!! Y’all think we should rent out the @freshprince house?? We’re making it happen,” generating worldwide attention.

Real estate experts say the property’s value reflects both its architectural pedigree and its status as a cultural landmark. Its return to market follows nearly five decades without a public listing. According to property records, it was last sold in 1978.

The timing of the sale also coincides with the home’s use as a filming location for an undisclosed Netflix project, keeping the mansion visible in mainstream media as it prepares for sale.

For fans of the sitcom, which remains accessible on major streaming platforms, the sale offers a rare chance to connect with a piece of television history. “So this is what it looks like when a place becomes legend,” said one admirer on social media, “and then finally gets its shot in the real-estate spotlight.”
