Gabrielle Union is talking about the changes she began to experience during the early stages.
During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show”, the actress revealed that while in the early stages of perimenopause, the stage where a woman’s ovaries stop working, she said that things felt off. She essentially went to her mother and then a doctor who diagnosed her with the condition.
“No one talks about it. They’d rather just say that you’re crazy or bitter or you’re a B, and you’re like, I’m a human being and something is going on,” she said. Drew would add her piece and say, “I took a walk in the park this morning because I was just struggling so much when I woke up. You just go through an emotional rollercoaster.”
OB/GYN Dr. Kameelah Phillips, who was also a guest on the show, said that women can gain up to 30 pounds during menopause. Union went on to discuss her struggles with going through menopause and talked about her drastic weight gain.
“I reached out to a healthcare professional, and they were like first things first, no gluten, no dairy, no alcohol, no caffeine,” she recalled. After joking about stopping to drink alcohol, Gabrielle Union said that after listening to the doctor’s orders, she did see a change in her body.
