Shonda Rhimes and Kerry Washington are back together again. And this time it’s not for Scandal. Washington is gearing up for her new role as a Broadway producer for her new project and she has enlisted some of her celebrity friends to help.
The Broadway play is titled, ‘American Son’ and is written by Christopher Demos-Brown. It’s about “a four-person drama about estranged parents who are forced to come together to find out what happened to their teenage son after he’s detained by police. The play is set in a Florida police station and will no-doubt deal with many of the emotions that have bubbled up over the past few years.”
Jada Pinkett Smith along with Dwyane Wade, Shonda Rhimes, Steve Stoute and Washington’s are listed as producers for the Broadway play.
In a statement by Washington, she says:
“Christopher Demos-Brown has written a play that dives deep into the big questions of who we are as a nation. By exploring the intimate relationships within a family caught at the crossroads of love, loss, identity and community. After reading the script I was immediately enthralled by the world of the play and the gripping circumstances that these characters are facing.”
American Son’s 16-week limited engagement begins previews Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Booth Theatre, with an opening night of Sunday, Nov.4.
