George Floyd’s family will move forward with their lawsuit against Kanye West because of the comments he made during a recent interview on Drink Champs.
The announcement was made via a press release by Roxie Washington, the mother of Floyd’s child, who has the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law to file the suit against the rapper.
The lawsuit is reportedly not only against West but also against his business partners. It argues that West’s comments pertaining to Floyd’s death were false and led to “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.”
We reported that during his interview, Kanye West said that George Floyd was not murdered by ex-police officer Derek Chauvin but died of a fentanyl overdose. The interview has reportedly been removed from all distribution platforms.
Drink Champs released a statement after the episode was removed, “Drink Champs prides itself on its ability to allow a free flow of ideas within the hip-hop community. That being said, unfortunately, the recent interview with Kanye West contained false and hurtful information regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder of George Floyd.”
The statement continued, “Integrity is very important and we don’t want to promote false narratives on our platform. Our goal is to celebrate the culture. Therefore, we had no choice but to remove the episode from distribution. We apologize to the family of Mr. Floyd and anyone else hurt by this episode.”
