Giancarlo Esposito, known for his role as Gus Fring on Breaking Bad, recently opened up about a harrowing chapter in his life. In an interview on SiriusXM’s Jim & Sam Show, the actor shared his deep financial troubles and the extreme measures he once contemplated.

Esposito recounted, “I went through two bankruptcies, as well as a foreclosure on my home. It was a hard moment in time. I literally thought of self-annihilation so they could survive. That’s how low I was.”

He revealed the depth of his desperation, confessing, “My way out in my brain was: ‘Hey, do you get life insurance if someone commits suicide? Do they get the bread?’”

Despite the gravity of his thoughts, Esposito’s concern for his family’s well-being was evident. “I had four kids. I wanted them to have a life,” he emphasized.

However, it was his family that ultimately served as his beacon of hope during those dark times. Reflecting on the potential aftermath of his contemplated action, Esposito realized the profound and lasting pain it would inflict on his loved ones.

“The pain I would cause them would be lifelong, and there’d be lifelong trauma that would just extend the generational trauma I’m trying to move away from,” he acknowledged.
