Goapele Releases New Album, ‘Colours’

Goapele

On Friday, Nov 3, the veteran R&B singer, Goapele, released her seventh studio album, Colours. With this project, the Bay Area belle invites fans and listeners to experience music as she processes it: as a sensory experience.

The eight song set offers a mystical, kaleidoscope of musical experiences.

“Time Heals,” featuring contributions from musicians Errol Cooney, Mike Aaberg, Chris Dave, and Keyon Harrold, reassures listener that rough times soon fade away.

“The storm and rain washed away / The pain that I endured / Just as the sun will rise each morning / Just like the day returns to night / Without our say,” Goapele sings over jazzy instrumentation.

A month before the projects release, Goapele dropped the music video for “Purple” featuring former Sparkle co-star, Omari Hardwick. The video showcases Goapele and Hardwick as two people finding one another amidst a foggy, purple haze.

“Purple,” dedication to the late Prince, is filled with euphoria as Goapele basks in her partner’s love.

In an interview with Hype Magazine, the “Closer” singer explained more about the intention behind the album.

“With this new project, COLOURS, I am trying something new. I want to set a tone and mood with these songs I’m engaging the other senses. The songs have been paired with specific fragrances starting with aroma therapy candles.”
