Just days after the death of show creator, Norman Lear, the cast of the upcoming Good Times animated series has been announced.
Deadline reports that the reimagined version of Lear’s show will be voiced by names like Marsai Martin, Jay Pharoah, Yvette Nicole Brown, JB Smoove, Slink Johnson, and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola. Lear will also make a guest appearance in the show’s first episode.
According to the outlet, the animated Good Times series focuses on the fourth generation of the Evans family living in apartment 17C of the last remaining housing projects in Chicago. It explores the family in the present day as they navigate today’s world and contemporary social issues.
Ranada Shephard and Carl Jones are the series’ co-creators, with Shephard serving as an executive producer and showrunner. Norman Lear and Brent Miller executive produce the animated series under their Act III Productions, Stephen Curry, Erick Peyton and Jeron Smith for Unanimous and Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins for Fuzzy Door. The 10-episode series has no confirmed release date, however, sources teased a Summer 2024 premiere and has been ordered by Netflix.
