Halle Bailey was very emotional on social media after revealing that she officially has her own Ariel doll from the upcoming remake of “The Little Mermaid.”
The singer/actor went on Instagram to share the news and to give fans a first look at the Mattel doll. “Today, I have something really exciting to reveal to you all. I am gonna cry,” she said.
Bailey continued, “This is the new Little Mermaid doll. I am literally choking up because this means so much to me. And to have one that looks like me that’s my favorite Disney character is very surreal. And look, she even has my mole! See! Look! And the hair and the tail! The bottom of it, it could be in the water.”
She added, “I’m just stunned. So, I don’t quite know what to do with it, but I’m going to steal this, and take it home and hide it forever.”
The live-action film of “The Little Mermaid” will be released on May 26. Although, after it was announced that the “Grown-ish” star will play the role of Ariel, she’s received a lot criticism, which she has since addressed.
“As a black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock anymore,” she said. “I never read my comments. Don’t ever read the comments…When the teaser came out, I was at the D23 Expo and I was so happy. I didn’t see any of the negativity.”
Halle added, “People don’t understand that when you’re black there’s this whole other community…it’s so important for us to see ourselves.”
Congratulations to Halle Bailey! Pre-sale for the doll has reportedly began on Amazon’s Italian website, however there’s no official release date for the doll.
