Halle Berry is looking forward to getting married to the love of her life, musician Van Hunt.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of her latest film, Crime 101, Berry revealed when she knew he was the one.
“You know, you get to be 54, you just kind of done it a few times, three, to be exact,” Berry said. “You just kind of know when it’s right, ’cause you know when it’s wrong.”
During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Berry spoke about her engagement.
“There’s some confusion that he asked to marry me, and I said no,’ Berry said.
“But, that’s not the case?” Fallon.
“No, that’s not the case,” Berry explained. “I did not say ‘no,’ we just don’t have a date. Of course, I said ‘yes, I would marry him.’ “
“I’m so happy, you guys are a great couple,” Fallon said.
“Thank you. He did put a little ring on it,” Berry replied
“Oh, a little,” joked Fallon at the size of Berry’s humongous rock.
HOW BERRY MET VAN HUNT
Berry and musician Van Hunt’s relationship began in 2020 when they were introduced by Hunt’s brother, who had been friends with Berry for many years. Because they met during the COVID-19 pandemic, their initial courtship was entirely virtual. They spent several months talking on the phone and texting before ever meeting face-to-face.
Speaking on Today, Berry explained why she doesn’t need to be married to validate her relationship.
“I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once. And so, no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” she said.
“I think we will get married. Just because out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. And I feel like I should, we should get married. But it’s not because we feel like we have to,” Berry continued. “I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
