Georgia is looking for a way to help expecting mothers after the overturning of the supreme court case Roe v. Wade.
Since being overturned, many states including Georgia, have issued a ban on abortions and have put in place strict qualifications for the person looking to end their pregnancy.
The state has ruled that unborn children can now be claimed as an income tax exemption only if it has a fetal heartbeat.
As of July 20th, the Georgia Department of Revenue said, “any unborn child with a detectable human heartbeat will be eligible for the state’s individual income tax dependent exemption,” which will allow the parent to receive a $3,000 dependent personal exemption.
With this new law in place, Georgia residents may still qualify for an abortion if a physician declares there is an emergency.
