Tennessee high school student Tupac Mosley is motivation for every student who may think they can’t make it in school because of their personal circumstances.
The 17-year-old Raleigh Egypt High School recently graduated at the top of his class, as valedictorian – with a 4.3 GPA – all while homeless.
While sitting down with Memphis’ Fox 13 correspondent Siobhan Riley, Mosley explained that his family fell on hard times after his father died earlier. Unable to make ends meet, the college bound Tennessee resident said they were evicted from their home on Feb. 21, and proceeded to go from home to home.
During his graduation speech, Mosley thanked the non-profit organization For the Kingdom and its director giving his family a place to stay on its campgrounds.
“When I heard that I got $3 million, I was more than elated and excited and astonished that it was that much,” said Mosley.
He continued, “I knew that I had to make them proud,” Mosley said referring to the people who helped his family. “I knew that their investment was worth it that and just show them that, yes, everything that you poured into me was worth $3 million and counting.”
Mosley will be attending Tennessee State University in the fall, and plans on majoring in electrical engineering.
When asked what he would tell other young people in situations similar to his, he said, “Never let your current situation – whatever circumstances you’re going through – be a mountain that you can’t climb.”
