The divorce between former NBA player Iman Shumpert and singer Teyana Taylor has taken a contentious turn. Shumpert has filed a motion alleging that Taylor violated the terms of their sealed divorce agreement. He is requesting the court to hold her in contempt, which could potentially lead to her arrest.
According to court documents filed in Fulton County, Georgia, Shumpert accuses Taylor of leaking confidential details about their divorce settlement to the media. He claims that these leaks occurred shortly after Taylor posted photos with her new partner, actor Aaron Pierre, on social media. Shumpert’s attorney stated, “Mr. Shumpert has never whatsoever leaked any allegations or claims stated in any of the pleadings.” He added that Shumpert “adamantly denies that he has provided any information to any media.”
Taylor, on the other hand, has denied any wrongdoing. She asserts that there was no formal settlement agreement and that all decisions were made by the court. In a social media post, Taylor said, “Everything that either party received in the divorce was awarded by the Court.” She also emphasized her desire to move on peacefully, stating, “I never tried to send Iman to jail. I’m still not trying to send Iman to jail.”
The couple’s divorce was finalized on July 1, 2024, after a lengthy legal process that began in January 2023. Taylor had filed for divorce citing Shumpert’s “cruel treatment,” including emotional and mental abuse. She also accused him of withdrawing nearly $4 million from their joint accounts and leaving her to cover a $200,000 home renovation bill. Shumpert’s attorneys have denied these allegations.
Despite the ongoing legal battles, both parties have expressed a commitment to co-parenting their two daughters, Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. and Rue Rose Shumpert. A court hearing is scheduled for June 24, where both Taylor and Shumpert are expected to appear.
As the legal proceedings continue, the public remains captivated by the unfolding drama between the former couple. The outcome of the upcoming court hearing may provide further clarity on the allegations and the future of their co-parenting relationship.
