With COVID-19 impacting the lives of many Americans, some wonder how the pandemic will affect their pockets.
There’s a proposed $1 trillion relief package that could pay adults $1000 or more to help with the coronavirus outbreak. Reported on Daily Mail, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said Americans could see their first round of checks in three weeks if congress approves. Mnuchin said the administration is proposing $1,000 per person and $500 per child. For example, a family of five would receive $3,500.
Mnuchin also said that if in six weeks, the president still has a national emergency, then people will receive another round of checks. The proposed package is also seeking to give $300 billion for small businesses and $200 billion for the airlines and other critical industries that were directly impacted by the coronavirus. He’s pushing Congress to have the legislation passed as early as next week.
“We told the House and the Senate we need to get legislation done quickly, this needs to be done by the beginning of next week and I think once you see more and more money coming into the economy American’s are going to feel a lot better and they’re going to understand that this is a virus. We’re going to get through this. This is not the financial crisis that will go on for years,” Mnuchin said.
