Rapper Ja Rule announced Wednesday that his daughter, Brittney Atkins, is expecting her first child with husband Tevin Aitken. The news was shared during an interview on the “Sherri” talk show, where the father of three recounted the heartwarming moment his daughter revealed her pregnancy.
“It was very cute the way she did it,” Ja Rule said. “She put the sonogram in a box … and it was like a card that said ‘you’re now grandma and grandfather.’” He added, “It was an amazing moment.”
During the broadcast, Sherri Shepherd presented Ja Rule with a custom cardigan reading “Big Poppa,” a playful nod to his new role. Ja Rule — born Jeffrey Atkins Jr. — accepted the gift with pride.
“You can see my expression, see me in wifey’s expression,” he said. “I’m about to be a grandfather.”
The rapper, 49, is already father to Brittney along with sons Jeffrey Jr. and Jordan. Brittney, 30, is the couple’s eldest child.
Brittney and Tevin married in May 2025, during a “Great Gatsby”-themed ceremony at Villa Barone Hilltop Manor in New York. The actress-entrepreneur runs a haircare brand, “Based On You,” and has maintained a relatively private life.
Looking to the Future
Ja Rule spoke of his enthusiasm for the new arrival, sharing how the family captured the reveal on camera. “So we go into the room … and we open it up and she got the camera on,” he recalled.
He also joked about choosing the name his grandchild would call him. “I think I’m going to steal my name from the Notorious B.I.G. … I love it when they call me Big Poppa,” he said with a laugh.
Brittney’s announcement drew warm messages from fans and peers alike, many congratulating the family on social media. She and Tevin have not yet disclosed the baby’s gender or due date.
As the family prepares for this next chapter, Ja Rule said, “I love it … Big Poppa is in the building.”
