Reports state that the actor will produce the upcoming documentary on the legendary Luther Vandross alongside Colin Firth. Dawn Porter will be directing the film.

Foxx said in a statement, “Luther is one of our GOATs. He’s one of the greatest singers in the history of music. It is truly an honor to be a part of the team to help bring this incredible story to the masses.”

Vandross began his career singing backup for singers such as Diana Ross, David Bowie, Chaka Khan, and Bette Midler. He went on to win multiple Grammy awards, including four during the 2004 Grammy award show, and sold over 40 million albums worldwide.

The Luther Vandross documentary has been approved by his close family and friends. It will reportedly show “never-before-seen personal archive footage,” and “ will follow the iconic artist as he charted his own course becoming one of the most decorated and influential pop artists of all time.”

Luther Vandross passed away in 2005 at age 54.
