Janice Combs, Diddy’s mother, has asked the court for leniency ahead of her son’s sentencing.
In a letter penned to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs acknowledged her son’s deeds.
“Unfortunately, my son has made some terrible mistakes in his life,” she wrote in the letter obtained by E! News, “which I know he recognizes.”
“I will never excuse any wrongdoing committed by Sean,” she continued. “I’ve always been very strict with him growing up. I appeal to the kindness of your heart to allow my son to be able to sit at a dinner table with his family. To allow him to raise his children and to instill in them the need to be respectful, get an education and just be God’s children with love in their hearts.”
Combs also referenced how four of Diddy’s kids, Quincy, 34, King, 27, and twins Jessie and D’lila, 18, who lost their mother Kim Porter in 2018.
“I beg your honor to let him help them through the healing processes from the loss of their mother,” she wrote. “And the pain and sleepless nights they have had since Sean’s incarceration.”
“I don’t know how much longer I will be around,” she continued. “But I would love to be able to see him and his children together again.”
Following his July conviction, Diddy’s lawyers requested a sentence of 14 months. This would release him immediately because he’s already served more than a year in federal custody.
Diddy’s lawyers argue that Combs has been a “model prisoner.” Also, Diddy’s undergone a significant personal transformation, including becoming sober.
“Mr. Combs has served over a year in one of the most notorious jails in America. Yet has made the most of that punishment,” the filing states.
Prosecutors will seek a much longer sentence. Their recommendation is reportedly in the range of 51 to 63 months. They’re arguing the seriousness of the conduct and the need for deterrence.
