A Different World sitcom star Jasmine Guy won her first Emmy!
Jasmine Guy is an actress, dancer, and director who has brought multiple characters to life over her 40-year career. From the vivacious Whitely Gilbert in A Different World to the sassy Dina of Gamma Ray in School Daze, Guy has enjoyed a diverse career in television, theatre and film.
Her hard work has earned her her first Emmy in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for her work as Barbara Baldwin in Ironbeard Films’ The Chronicles of Jessica Wu. The 75th annual Creative Arts EMMYs recognizes artistic and technical achievements in animated, reality, variety, documentary, and special TV programming.
She’s the third Black woman in the ceremony’s history to capture the trophy following previous winners KeKe Palmer and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
The Creative Arts ceremony takes place January 6 and January 7, ahead of the 2023 Primetime EMMYs (now set for January 15). The primetime show was originally slated to take place September 2023, but was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The Primetime Emmy ceremony will air at 8 p.m. EST Jan. 15 on Fox, with “black-ish” star Anthony Anderson as host.
