Congratulations are in order! Jay- Z will be receiving the president’s award during the NAACP Images Awards.
If you haven’t heard, Brooklyn native Jay-Z has been making headlines for doing a lot of positive things lately, including social justice work. Now, the music mogul has another award to add to his list of accomplishments. According to reports, Jay was nominated for the award based on his “dedication to bringing awareness to the issues of the Black community- Including systematic racism.’
“The President’s Award is an honor we carefully bestow upon an individual, maintaining its significance and commitment to recognizing excellence in service that directly affects our community,” stated NAACP president Derrick Johnson. He continues, “Shawn Carter has been committed to shedding light on the Black community including systematic racism and unjust treatment under the law, utilizing his global platform to create eve lasting change. There is no better time than now, as we celebrate our 50th year, to honor him.”
Congresswoman Maxine Waters will be receiving the NAACP Chairman’s Award, and radio host Tom Joyner will be honored with the Vanguard award.
The awards is set to air on TV One, March 30th. It will be hosted by Anthony Anderson.
