Jeannie Mai has expressed her admiration for Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura’s honesty and bravery. On May 23, Cassie, 37, spoke out for the first time after a video from 2016 surfaced, showing her being physically abused by her ex, Sean “Diddy” Combs. In an Instagram statement, Cassie thanked her “family, friends, strangers, and those I have yet to meet” for their “love and support.”
Mai, 45, was one of many celebrities who commented on Cassie’s post. She wrote, “Cassie’s voice has been a shield and sanctuary for many, including me.” Mai has her own experiences with domestic abuse, having recently accused her estranged husband Jeezy of similar behavior.
Mai’s Support for Cassie
Mai praised Cassie’s courage, stating, “In every echo of your bravery, Cassie, there lies a melody of hope that dances through the silence. Thank you for turning your fight into your light 🌟.” Mai’s comments reflect her personal struggles and support for others facing similar challenges.
In April, Mai filed a court document alleging several instances of domestic abuse and child neglect by Jeezy, 46. She claimed he exhibited “explosive outbursts, excessive drinking, and domestic violence.” Jeezy (born Jay Wayne Jenkins) denied the allegations on Instagram, describing them as “false and deeply disturbing.” He wrote, “This malicious attempt to tarnish my character and disrupt my family is ridiculous. My main concern is being an active father to our daughter as I fight for joint custody. The truth will prevail through the proper legal channels.”
Custody Battle and Moving Forward
The couple, married in 2021, are now separated after Jeezy filed for divorce in September 2023. He cited an “irretrievably broken” marriage. They share a 2-year-old daughter, Monaco, and continue to battle for custody. In April, Jeezy requested joint physical and legal custody, claiming he hasn’t had “any significant parenting” time with Monaco “all year.”
Mai, adjusting to life as a single mother, told PEOPLE she was “doing good.” She said, “I’ve just been managing it. I take every issue, whether it’s my career, parenting, or personal time, and give it my full attention when I’m in it.” Mai emphasized the importance of her daughter and herself, saying, “Monaco and Jeannie are the only things that matter to me right now. I will do whatever it takes to ensure we are healthy, happy, and safe.”
