Jennifer Hudson may add another Grammy to her collection.
According to PEOPLE, The Gift of Love, her holiday album, was nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. It’s her first nomination in the pop album category and her ninth Grammy nomination overall.
Hudson spoke about the Grammy nod at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 8.
“I’m still living a dream, it’s blessed me,” Hudson said. “I’m a holiday fanatic, so to be able to be acknowledged in that way with the album … that is just so dear to my heart, it is beyond a dream.”
“And it was on my late mother’s birthday as well, which made it even more special,” she added.
Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, was murdered in October 2008 in a tragic shooting in Chicago. William Balfour, Hudson’s brother-in-law at the time, killed Donerson, her brother Jason Hudson, and her 7-year-old nephew Julian, the son of his estranged wife, Hudson’s sister Julia. Balfour was sentenced to life in prison for the murders.
Hudson also spoke about performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
“It’s always an honor to be here, to sing and to pay tribute to all the greats and the legends,” Hudson said. “My life is like a whole dream to be able to do that.”
Hudson teamed up with Stevie Wonder, Questlove, Maxwell, Beck, Flea, and Leon Thomas for a tribute to Sly Stone. The amazing ensemble played a medley of Sly and the Family Stone’s greatest hits.
Hudson is a two-time Grammy Award winner and is an EGOT winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). In 2009, her self-titled debut album won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Hudson won her second Grammy in 2017 for Best Musical Theater Album for The Color Purple Broadway revival. She starred as Shug Avery.
