Renowned singer-songwriter and activist, John Legend, has consistently been a vocal critic of former United States President Donald Trump. In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, Legend reiterated his condemnation of Trump, asserting that the former president is a “racist at his core.”

Legend’s condemnation of Trump stems from a series of incidents and statements that reflect what Legend describes as deep-seated racial biases. One such instance was Trump’s response to the Black Lives Matter protests following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Legend recalled Trump’s advocacy for violent measures against protesters, including his suggestion that the military should shoot them.

John Legend’s Words

“When we protested the killing of George Floyd, he was advocating for the military to shoot us in the streets,” Legend stated, highlighting Trump’s aggressive stance towards peaceful demonstrators.

Legend also pointed to Trump’s history of discriminatory actions, both in his personal and professional life. He mentioned Trump’s documented reluctance to rent units in his buildings to Black Americans, an issue that drew scrutiny from the FBI.

“He has made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior,” Legend emphasized. “Like, he believes that, to his core, in his bones.”

Despite Trump’s claims of being a champion for Black Americans, Legend dismissed these assertions as mere rhetoric. He argued that Trump’s policies and statements, including his stance on criminal justice reform, are inconsistent with someone who genuinely supports racial equality.

“He is a tried-and-true, dyed-in-the-wool racist,” Legend declared. “In the core of his being, he is a racist.”

Legend’s remarks reflect a broader critique of Trump’s presidency and his approach to race relations. America is continuing to combat issues of systemic racism and inequality. However, voices like Legend’s play a crucial role in holding leaders accountable for their words and actions.
