Jonathan Majors is returning to the big screen with the release of the first trailer for Magazine Dreams. Briarcliff Entertainment unveiled the trailer on January 29, marking Majors’ first film since his high-profile legal battles. The drama, directed by Elijah Bynum, is set to release in theaters on March 21.
In the film, Majors portrays Killian Maddox, an aspiring bodybuilder obsessed with achieving fame. According to the official synopsis, Maddox is “consumed by his dream of becoming a world-famous bodybuilder and one day gracing the cover of fitness magazines.” His journey is marked by loneliness and a strict, regimented lifestyle that “only pushes him deeper toward self-destruction.”
“As he battles both the limits of his physical body and his own inner demons, Magazine Dreams explores the lengths one man will go in his haunting quest for recognition in a world that often overlooks him,” the synopsis continues.
A Delayed Release Amid Jonathan Majors Controversy
Magazine Dreams initially premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival to strong buzz, with major studios vying for distribution rights. However, the film’s release was postponed following Majors’ December 2023 conviction on misdemeanor assault and harassment charges in New York City. In April 2024, he was sentenced to complete a domestic violence treatment program.
After Searchlight Pictures dropped the film, Briarcliff Entertainment picked up the distribution rights, announcing its upcoming release. Alongside Majors, the film features a cast that includes Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris.
This marks Majors’ first major role since starring in Creed III, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the second season of Loki. Despite his legal issues, Majors remains in the industry and is also set to star in Merciless, a revenge thriller directed by Martin Villeneuve.
The newly released Magazine Dreams trailer highlights Maddox’s intense training, his struggles with self-worth, and the psychological toll of his relentless pursuit. The film is expected to be a powerful and emotionally charged drama.
Magazine Dreams will hit theaters nationwide on March 21.
