Jonathan Majors, the actor once cast as Kang the Conqueror, has reignited speculation about a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a recent public appearance, he offered remarks that fans and industry observers quickly interpreted as teases of a comeback.
At the Daytime Beauty Awards in Los Angeles, Majors attended alongside his wife, Meagan Good. When asked whether he might reprise his Marvel role, he replied, “I cannot say anything about that.” He then added, “Well it’s a multiverse, so there’s always that.” He also told the interviewer he was “very glad” that fans still want him back.
Majors’ comment has drawn attention because in past interviews he expressed willingness to return — if invited. In March 2025, he told Entertainment Weekly, “Yes. Yes, to both,” regarding a future in Marvel or Creed, adding, “The version of me that would come back … would be different.”
The Fallout Between Marvel and Jonathan Majors
Majors was dropped by Marvel Studios in December 2023 after being convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment in his domestic violence case. At that time, Marvel quietly abandoned multiple Kang-based storylines. The studio pivoted, recasting its next Avengers film’s villain role.
One of those changes: Robert Downey Jr. was brought back — not as Tony Stark, but as Doctor Doom — to lead Avengers: Doomsday. That shift made the future of Kang in the MCU uncertain.
Marvel has not responded publicly to Majors’ recent remarks. Studio silence has only fueled speculation. Some analysts believe his comments are a strategic opening in a long negotiation. Others argue the door may remain closed unless Marvel leadership makes a change.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on December 18, 2026. The film’s development included many changes once Majors was no longer involved. Marvel may yet explore alternate-universe versions of Kang, recast, or repurpose the character entirely.
