We all know Destiny’s Child hit single “Bills, Bills, Bills” but did you know that it was written by Kandi Burruss?
The Xscape group member revealed that she was the pen behind the song.
In a recent interview, the singer shared other facts about the song that fans might not have known about.
According to Burruss, the song was based on a real-life experience. “When I got the girls at the studio, we were singing them the idea, I had the melody of how I felt like the verse should go, and we came together for the lyrics.”
She continued, “I used a lot of my past relationships as inspiration. The relationship that I had been in prior to writing the song I took inspiration from it… though I didn’t tell them that.”
Kandi also dropped a bombshell during the interview. “Now, this is the really funny part: One of the girls that was in the group was dating my ex at the time. So I didn’t tell them that some of the lyrics in there were inspired by him.”
The song gained two Grammy nominations for Destiny’s Child in 1999.
