The city of Chicago is outraged with the death of 26-year-old Jemel Roberson, a church organist who worked as a security guard at a local bar. Roberson was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer, who has yet to be identified, last Sunday (Nov. 11) in the wee hours of the morning. To help Jemel’s family find some semblance of peace, Kanye West gave a six-figure donation to a GoFundMe page created for the deceased father of two (one son and a baby on the way).
West donated $150,000 to Roberson’s family as they raise money for Jemel’s funeral costs.
USA Today reports that as of today (Nov. 19) the Roberson’s GoFundMe page has raised more than $310,000, which is more than double of its original goal of $15,000. GoFundMe representative Bart Jackson confirmed West’s donation is real.
The family shared a message with donors, saying, “The money that has been raised has gone far beyond the original goal,” a note on the GoFundMe page reads. “This will greatly support his family’s needs during this tragic time.”
‘Ye’s donation comes weeks after he publicly distanced himself from Donald Trump and politics as whole. In fact, he shared a message about his time in politics via Twitter.
