Katt Williams and Cedric The Entertianer have been at odds over a joke Williams alleges was stolen from him in 2000 and has repeatedly called him out on since.
In a conversation with Shannon Sharpe on his Club Shay Shay podcast, Williams denied the The Entertainer’s claims that the joke wasn’t stolen after addressing them when he appeared ont he show in January of 2023.
“That was ridiculous. I seen Katt 30 times and he didn’t say nothing, all that was some internet sh*t…I responded to him, he didn’t respond to me, so I left it at that,” The Entertainer said during his episode with Sharpe.
“He thought that I was just a no-name comedian, and that he could take this joke and nobody would know,” Williams said in the new episode. “The issue was that i had already done this particular joke on BET’s ComicView twice. It had done so well… that they made it part of the commercial.”
He continued, “This is not just a random joke, this is my best joke…it’s my closing joke. 1998, I’m doing this joke…Cedric comes to The Comedy Store, he watches me in the audience, he comes backstage, he tells me what a great job I did and how much he loves the joke. Two years later, he’s doing that as his last joke on The [Original] Kings Of Comedy and he’s doing it verbatim, he just changed my car into a spaceship.”
Later int he conversation, Williams proceeded to talk down on The Neighborhood star’s career.
“He did four comedy specials. They’re so bad, Shannon, they’re not on Netflix or TUBI.”
Cedric The Entertainer caught wind of Willaims’ claims and shared some words under the post of the clip on Club Shay Shay’s Instagram.
“Revisionist History, regardless of whatever Katts opinion My career can’t be reduced to One Joke Katt Williams claims as his,” he wrote. “I been over 40 movies, my specials and brand speaks volumes for I am. The ppl I have put on including ‘Katt in the Hat’. At the Gibson Amphitheater.”
