Kelly Rowland says a recent reunion with her former bandmates was all about love and celebration.
The singer and actress shared that she, Beyoncé and Michelle Williams gathered privately after Williams received a Grammy nomination. The nod recognized Williams’ work in gospel music.
“It was important for us to show up for our sister,” said Kelly Rowland in a recent interview. “When one of us wins, we all win. That’s how it has always been.”
The trio rose to fame as Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Their hits included “Say My Name” and “Survivor.” Though the group disbanded in 2006, the members have reunited on select occasions.
Williams earned her nomination for her contribution to contemporary gospel music. The recognition came from the Grammy Awards, which honor excellence across genres.
Rowland said the moment called for an intimate gathering.
“We didn’t need a stage,” she said. “We didn’t need cameras. We just needed each other.”
A Private Celebration
According to Rowland, the reunion took place quietly at Williams’ home. The evening included dinner, laughter and prayer.
“It felt like old times,” Rowland said. “We were sitting around talking about music and life. Nothing had changed.”
Michelle Williams has long been open about her faith and mental health journey. Her recent music reflects that growth.
“She has poured her heart into this project,” Rowland said. “To see it acknowledged on that level meant everything to her.”
Rowland described the nomination as validation for Williams’ years of dedication.
“Michelle has always been grounded in purpose,” she said. “This was not about fame for her. It was about ministry.”
The group’s third member, Beyoncé, also attended the celebration. Rowland said Beyoncé expressed pride in Williams’ achievement.
“We were cheering her on like sisters do,” Rowland said. “There were tears. There was gratitude. It was beautiful.”
Sisterhood Beyond the Spotlight
Destiny’s Child has reunited publicly before. The trio famously performed during Beyoncé’s Super Bowl halftime show in 2013. They also appeared together at the 2018 Coachella festival.
Still, Rowland said their bond goes beyond performances.
“People see the big shows,” she said. “They don’t always see the quiet support.”
Rowland added that their sisterhood has endured marriages, motherhood and solo careers.
“We have grown up together,” she said. “That kind of history does not disappear.”
Williams has not publicly detailed the private gathering. However, she has previously spoken about the group’s lasting friendship.
“We have a group chat,” Rowland said with a laugh. “It never goes silent.”
As for future collaborations, Rowland remained cautious.
“We never say never,” she said. “But right now, we are just proud of Michelle.”
She paused before adding one more thought.
“At the end of the day, trophies are wonderful,” Rowland said. “But showing up for each other means even more.”
