Kid Cudi recently revealed that he and Kanye West are working on their friendship.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (July 19), Cudi shared they have reconciled.
”Right now were rebuilding our friendship,” he wrote. “I hit him a week ago to check in on him; today, he hit me to check on me. No work talk. Just seeing how I was doing. It was nice.”
The two rap stars have been at odds for several years. Back in February 2022, West said Cudi was removed from Donda because he was friends wiith Pete Davidson. In response, Cudi called Kanye “whack” and said, “You ain’t no friend” on social media.
During an interview with Esquire in August of the same year, Cudi said it would take “a motherf**king miracle” for them to be friends again.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music ahead of his Insano release, Cudi said he received a sincere apology from West that changed everything.
“The reason why we became cool again is because he apologized to me, and it was sincere,” he said. “I was just like, ‘Wow, Kanye does not apologize to anybody [or] say sorry to anyone.’”
“This is someone who is my brother, ultimately, who came into my life and championed me,” Cudi continued. “He did things for me that nobody else did for me early on in my career. People don’t even know that Kanye paid for the first ‘Day ‘N’ Nite’ video when I didn’t have a deal.”
The partnership between Kid Cudi and Kanye West reshaped modern hip-hop. They pushed the genre into raw emotional honesty and melodic experimentation.
After signing Cudi to his G.O.O.D. Music imprint in 2008, Cudi contributed to the Auto-Tune-heavy sound of 808s & Heartbreak. They collaborated on classics such as “Gorgeous,” “All of the Lights,” and “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1.” In 2018, they released their self-titled collaborative album as Kids See Ghosts.
