It’s clear Kim Kardashian is dedicated to her mission to change criminal justice reform in America, and her latest feat proves it.
Nashville, T.N. resident Matthew Charles was released from prison in January of this year, but has had trouble securing permanent housing because of his criminal record. Charles served 20 years of a 35-year sentence for non-violent drug and weapons charges. Charles was the first to be released under Trump’s newly-passed prison reform laws.
Like former inmates Alice Marie Johnson and Kevin Cooper, Kim is helping Charles get back on his feet by paying his rent for the next five years.
The multimillion-dollar mogul first heard about his case on Twitter, reports TMZ. Charles was initially granted early release from prison (by accident) in May 2016, but was ordered to finish his sentence when the mistake was seen.
It’s reported that Kim contacted Charles and a friend privately over the weekend to offer her assistance.
After graciously accepting, Charles turned to Facebook to express his gratitude.
“Kardashian-West, through Tracy, said they heard about my situation. Was moved and has decided to help me. And to me in an unbelievable way. Kim did not do this for attention or publicity, but I had to share it, because it’s to good not to…”
