Kirk Franklin is finally breaking his silence about the confrontation he had with his eldest son, Kerrion.
Franklin, along with his wife Tammy Collins, spoke with Tamron Hall on her talk show to address the leaked conversation between the father and son over the weekend. Kerrion has shared a clip of Franklin cursing him out and calling him out of his name on his social media platforms.
The Grammy-winning Gospel artist would later issue a public apology on his Instagram, however, this is the first time that Franklin is addressing the relationship he has with his estranged son.
During the interview, Franklin stated that his son has been in and out of therapy for 20 years and make a point to say that as Kerrion got older his disrespect would turn into aggression.
“Now that he’s about to be 33 as a grown man the relationship at times can become very agitated and very frustrated… but I’m not going to stop trying to help him.” He continued, “He’s my son, he’s my firstborn, and I never want him to feel what I felt not having a father… It’s important for me because what if that call is the call that things change.”
Franklin went on to say that there is no nor has there been any physical or parental abuse and he continued to express his love for Kerrion. Watch the interview clip below.
