New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd offered his first public remarks Wednesday since being shot early Sunday in Manhattan, sharing a hopeful message on Instagram as he continues his recovery at Bellevue Hospital.

In an Instagram Story, Boyd posted a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed, accompanied by words of faith and gratitude. He wrote, “God is real, God is powerful! … Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”

Gratitude and Resilience

At 29, Boyd remains hospitalized in what officials describe as a “critical but stable” condition. According to reports, the bullet struck his abdomen and became lodged in his right lung, necessitating multiple surgeries.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said he has spoken with Boyd in the hospital and was heartened by his “upbeat” tone. “That’s what eases my mind,” Glenn said. “He’s in good spirits. His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The shooting took place around 2:09 a.m. Sunday outside Sei Less, an Asian-fusion restaurant in Midtown, between Seventh Avenue and Broadway, according to police 911 logs. Authorities have released surveillance images of a suspect — described as a medium-complexioned man wearing a black sweatshirt and multi-colored sneakers, carrying a black backpack. No arrests have been made.

Boyd also spoke with NYPD detectives, offering information to support the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the Jets released a short statement, acknowledging the situation but declining further comment.

His close friend, Ernest Quander, spoke to the media earlier in the week, calling Boyd a “soldier, through tough times.” “He’s all good right now,” Quander said. “He’s doing real good.”

Teammates and fans have rallied around Boyd, with defensive end Harrison Phillips telling reporters, “There’s been a lot of answered prayers … it’s a blessing to know that he’s in stable condition.”
