During an interview with the National Basketball Wives Association Summit, LaLa Anthony (who is married to Carmelo Anthony) opened up about being labeled as a “basketball wife” and the effect it had on her marriage.

She says:

“For many years, I personally fought against the term basketball wife. I was so focused on having my own and not being known as someone married to a basketball player. And to be honest with you, my marriage really suffered because of that.”

Now she says, “I’m so proud to uplift my husband and feel as though I’m sacrificing myself by doing so.”

Prior to marrying Carmelo, Lala was a MTV VJ host for TRL. In addition, she has written two New York Times bestselling books, launched a clothing line with Lord & Taylor and currently plays Lakeisha on Starz’ hit series Power.

“I’m so sorry I had those judgements about basketball wives,” said LaLa.
