LaVar Ball is opening up about the end of one of the most enduring relationships in sports. The outspoken Big Baller Brand founder revealed that he and his wife, Tina Ball, have ended their marriage after nearly three decades together.
Ball shared the personal update during a June 24 livestream with content creator N3on. His remarks offered a rare glimpse into his private life. They came more than a year after he publicly battled serious health issues, including the amputation of his right leg due to complications from diabetes.
Ball Reflects on End of Long Marriage
While speaking candidly on the livestream, Ball said the decision to end the marriage was not his.
“You know, with my wife, Tina decided to go her own way. That’s why you don’t see her right here,” Ball said. “She wanted to go do something else, that’s fine with me. We had our run. We had our run.”
Despite the separation, Ball spoke warmly about the woman he married in 1997. The couple raised three sons together: NBA players Lonzo and LaMelo Ball, along with recording artist LiAngelo Ball.
Ball also reflected on Tina’s recovery after she suffered a major stroke in 2017. The medical emergency left her with aphasia, a condition that affects communication.
“So, even though she had the stroke, and getting older, she would never be like, ‘Oh, man,’” Ball said. “She was always beautiful in my eyes, until you say I want to go do something else.”
The former football player made it clear that he harbors no bitterness over the split.
“The fact that if you decide to go this way, I’m gonna go that way. That’s fine,” Ball continued. “It is what it is, man.”
He also reflected on the value of spending decades with someone, regardless of how the relationship ends.
“Any time you can find somebody you can stay in love with for a really long time… if you can witness that love, that’s good,” Ball said. “I had that with her.”
Looking Ahead After Personal Challenges
Ball confirmed he has moved on romantically but declined to discuss his new relationship in detail.
“And I found somebody else, but it is what it is,” he said.
When N3on attempted to ask additional questions about the woman, Ball quickly shut down the conversation, telling the streamer he “didn’t need to worry about it.”
The revelation marks another major life change for Ball. Earlier this year, he disclosed that complications from diabetes resulted in multiple surgeries before doctors amputated his right leg above the knee.
In an interview with SLAM, Ball explained that an untreated foot infection spread through his bloodstream. The condition forced doctors to remove several toes, then his foot, before ultimately performing the amputation.
“If I don’t go at the end of last year during Christmas to get that infection looked at,” Ball told the outlet at the time, “this would be a different type of story.”
Known for his larger-than-life personality, Ball built a national profile while promoting the basketball careers of his sons. His confidence and bold predictions often made headlines during Lonzo Ball’s rise to the NBA. He later launched Big Baller Brand and the now-defunct Junior Basketball Association.
Although Ball remains one of basketball’s most polarizing personalities, his latest comments struck a far more reflective tone. Rather than expressing resentment, he focused on gratitude for the years he shared with Tina.
His closing remarks suggested he views the end of their marriage as another chapter in a life filled with both triumphs and setbacks.
