LeBron James delivered a pass Friday night that carried more meaning than most.

It found his son, Bronny James, beyond the arc.

Bronny rose and drilled a 3-pointer, sealing a moment never before seen in the NBA.

The play marked the league’s first father-son assist, a milestone that added another chapter to the James family legacy.

The historic connection came during the second quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Brooklyn Nets.

LeBron, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, drove earlier in the sequence before moving the ball to his son on the next possession.

Bronny, positioned a step behind the 3-point line, finished the play with confidence.

“LeBron James literally passed it on to the next generation Friday night,” the NBA reported.

A milestone years in the making

The moment carried significance beyond the stat sheet.

LeBron and Bronny already made history as the first father and son to play together in an NBA game.

Now, they have combined on a scoring play, a rarity once thought impossible in modern professional sports.

Bronny, 21, has spent much of the season developing between limited NBA minutes and time in the G League.

Recent injuries opened the door for extended playing time, including rotation minutes in consecutive games.

That opportunity set the stage for Friday’s milestone.

“I’ve gotten more and more reps, getting comfortable shooting behind the NBA line,” Bronny said. “It’s gotten more and more comfortable for me to shoot it just without thinking.”

The shot against Brooklyn represented his only points of the game, but its importance outweighed the box score.

More than just a play

The sequence lasted only seconds, yet symbolized decades of work.

LeBron has often spoken about his desire to share the court with his son. That vision became reality when the Lakers drafted Bronny in 2024.

Now in his 22nd NBA season, LeBron continues to add milestones to a career already filled with records.

For Bronny, the assist marked another step in establishing his own path.

The two shared the floor for several minutes during the second quarter, continuing a partnership that has drawn attention across the league.

The Lakers went on to secure a comfortable victory.
