Actress Leslie Jones revealed how much of a toll being slapped at the Oscars took on Chris Rock.
While promoting her new memoir, Jones spoke about the infamous 2022 Oscar slap and said that the comedian had to seek therapy with his daughters. “That s*** was humiliating. It really affected him,” she said. “People need to understand his daughters, his parents saw that. He had to go to counseling with his daughters.”
Jones said that watching Will Smith slap Rock “infuriated” her. “You don’t know that I was going to jump in my car and roll up there. I was so f***ing mad on so many levels… Chris Rock did a f***ing joke. I know Will, too… I was like, you couldn’t handle that s*** afterward? This is the Oscars. The whole world is watching.”
During last year’s Oscars, Chris Rock was getting ready to present the award for best documentary when he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head after she revealed that she was battling alopecia. Smith then walked on the stage, slapped the comedian in the face, and then returned to his seat. While seated he yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”
Later that night, Smith won the Oscar for Best Actor. Will Smith has been banned from attending the Oscars for ten years.
