LeVar Burton continues to win in life as he is slated to host the 94th Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The former host and executive producer of the children’s television show Reading Rainbow reacted to the news and shared his thoughts.
“Hosting the Scripps National Spelling Bee will be an honor. Like a lot of folks, I look forward to the competition every year and am excited to be a part of this wonderful tradition that celebrates excellence,” Burton said.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee will be broadcast on ION and Bounce networks with the semifinals taking place on June 1st and the finals on June 2nd.
Dr. J. Michael Durnil, the executive director of the Scripps National Spelling Bee spoke on Burton becoming the host of the huge event.
“The selection of Mr. Burton as host aligns with the mission of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. To have such a prominent advocate for children’s literacy involved in this special and unique competition is a perfect match. We have the same goals: to educate tomorrow’s leader and build reading competency in all young people.”
This isn’t the only accomplishment of Burton’s that we have reported on. We recently spoke on LeVar Burton landing the position as the host of the new Trivial Pursuit game show.
Congratulations Mr. Burton.
