In a recent appearance on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, Ludacris made some bold claims about his rap abilities, sparking a lively debate in the hip-hop community.

Out-Rapping Jay-Z? Ludacris Thinks So

During the podcast, Ludacris was asked who would write the better verse if both he and Jay-Z were given two hours. Ludacris didn’t hesitate, stating, “I would have to say I would win on that one.”

He acknowledged Jay-Z’s talent, calling him “definitely one of my favorites,” but emphasized his own strengths, saying, “I’m just going to go in and… Metaphor and style. In terms of flow, I’m going to kill that sh*t.”

Ludacris reiterated his respect for Jay-Z, noting their collaboration on the track “I Do It For Hip-Hop” from his 2008 album Theater Of The Mind. Reflecting on their collaboration, Ludacris remarked, “You gotta go back and listen. So dope. It just made me think of that.”

In a game of “Win, Lose, Draw,” he was pitted against Lil Wayne in a freestyle battle. Despite acknowledging Wayne’s skill, Ludacris argued, “I think Wayne, he’s one of the greatest by the way, I think he’s admitted… he don’t freestyle a lot, so I would just say I would win that.”

Ludacris and Newton also discussed the current state of hip-hop. Newton expressed concerns about the competitiveness in rap, but Ludacris was optimistic, stating, “It’s about to be, though. You see what’s going on. It’s reinvigorated.”

They delved into the recent rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, with Newton emphasizing the competitive nature of the art form. “Rapping is an art. Rapping is a sport,” he said. “Rappers, now, it can get dangerous for no reason.”

Ludacris’ claims have sparked conversations about the competitive nature of hip-hop and the art of rap. While some may disagree with his bold statements, Ludacris remains confident in his abilities, ready to take on any challenge that comes his way.
