Maia Campbell is aiming for a comeback to the big screen and is seeking the support of Tyler Perry to make it happen.
On Monday, April 14, the In The House actress posted a video on Instagram expressing her desire to adapt 72 Hour Hold—a 2005 novel by her late mother, Bebe Moore Campbell—into a project under Tyler Perry’s direction.
“Everybody keeps asking me, ‘what do I wanna do with my career?’ And honestly, I can say that I really wanna get in touch with Tyler Perry and have him produce my mother’s book, ‘72 Hour Hold,’” Campbell expressed in the now viral video.
She continued, “It was a monumental book for me. It was a New York Times bestseller and July is Mental Health Awareness Month. So, I’m still on that campaign. Keep me up in prayer. Thank you for praying for me and I’m gonna do my best to make you guys happy.”
“72 Hour Hold” is a book about a mother who attempts to support her bipolar daughter, Trina. Similarly to the book, Campbell was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her mother, Moore Campbell died in November 2006 at 56 after a battle with brain cancer.
