Mariah Carey recently revealed that she made peace with the passing of her mother.

On Wednesday, Carey appeared on CBS Mornings and spoke about working on her forthcoming album, Here for It All, while dealing with the loss of her mother, Patricia Carey.

During the interview, Gayle King asked Mariah if the album was “difficult for her to write.”

“Parts of it. Going through all that other stuff while making the album, that was difficult,” Mariah said.

“I don’t know how I processed it, but I just know that it was extremely difficult for me to navigate,” she continued. “And it was tough because I have always had an interesting relationship with my mother.”

In her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she touched on their relationship

“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions,” she wrote.

Mariah also shared that she was with her mother during the final moments.

“I was with her the whole time. And so I feel better about that. But it was tough,” Mariah said.

“She said a lot of things that were very healing for what I needed,” Mariah continued. “And I felt like that was the right thing to do.”

Mariah then mentioned her sister Alison, with whom she had a strained relationship.

“And my sister, I hadn’t seen in years, and I feel really badly about that as well,” she explained. “But that’s because I tend to have a guilt complex about everything. But it’s tough; my sister had an extremely hard life.”

In August 2024, Mariah shared that her mother and sister had passed away on the same day.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” she said at the time.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” added Mariah. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
