Marlon Wayans will protect his trans son at all costs.
During an appearance on “We In Miami”, Wayans explained that it’s his “natural instinct” to come to the defense of his son. Wayans shares his 25-year-old son, Kai, with his former partner, Angela Zackery.
”People can judge and say what they want. But at the end of the day, that’s my child,” Wayans said. “I’m gonna love my baby regardless of what anybody says. And they should be allowed to have their anonymity and enjoy their life exactly the way they want to enjoy it.”
”You can’t beat gay out of someone. And you can’t hypnotize someone to not be transgender. You gotta accept and love them,” he continued.
Wayans called retired NBA legend Dwyane Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, “heroes” and “examples” to those with transgender children.
The comedian shared that he’s “comfortable enough” in his masculinity to play a gay character in a film.
”I ain’t slobbing no n***a down,” Wayans joked. “I don’t trip. If it’s the right role–and depending on how they do it…If they wanna insinuate, great, but I don’t wanna be no Brokeback Mountain.”
In November 2023, Wayans revealed that Kai had transitioned.
“My daughter Amai is now Kai, and so, I talk about the transition. Not her, his… their transition, but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance,” Wayans said on the radio program. He also spoke about their identity in his 2024 comedy special Good Grief.
Wayans also supported the LGBTQA+ community during Pride Month.
“Happy Pride to all my LGBTQ peeps,” he wrote. “From my block to my schools to my cast and crews to my friends to my family… wherever you are or have been in my life, I wish you all love and support. You can be a straight man and still love gay people.”
