Bishop Marvin Sapp has decided to turn a controversial moment into profit.
Sapp has announced that he will be releasing a new song called “Close The Doors,” stemming from the viral video of him ordering the ushers to close the doors of the church while asking for an offering. The “Never Would’ve Made It” singer has said that the video was taken out of context and had even received death threats because of it.
During a recent interview, he explained how the song came about. “I was like, since they’re capitalizing on it, I’m gonna capitalize on it as well,” he said. Sapp shared a longer explanation on his Instagram account and said, “The last few weeks have been tough. Misunderstood, misrepresented, misinterpreted, and even maligned. But I’ve learned that when life hands you lemons, you don’t just make lemonade… you build the lemonade company.”
He also explained that the song means so much more than capital gain. “‘Close the Door’ isn’t just a song, it’s a soundtrack for survival. Just like He closed the door on death, Hell, and the grave, I’m closing the door on the noise, the pain, and everything that tried to break me.”
Marvin Sapp plans to release his new single on Good Friday.
