Mary J. Blige knows that she has some of the best fans in the world.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Blige explained how deep connection to her fans
That’s why I named it The For My Fans Tour. Because in all the Mary J. Blige concerts, it’s really about the fans. We’ve grown together. If it wasn’t for them, there would be none of this,” Blige said. “So it’s all about their reaction to the music that I’ve been putting out for years and just how much they love and support me. And as you can see, they don’t miss a beat. Sometimes I don’t even have to sing that much.”
Blige also spoke about her new concert film For My Fans which was filmed at Madison Square Garden.
“I’ve performed at Madison Square Garden with a couple of people before. I co-headlined with Jodeci when I first came out, and I co-headlined with JAY-Z on the Heart of the City Tour. And I co-headlined with Maxwell. I was always co-headlining. But this particular show at Madison Square Garden on The For My Fans Tour, I was headlining in this arena.
“I was home, and that’s a special moment for Mary J. Blige to be headlining at Madison Square Garden. I headline at the Barclays Center all the time,”she said. ‘But Madison Square Garden is very special. I needed to document that, my first headline show at Madison Square Garden. Not a co-headline, but a headline.”
Blige went on to speak about how she chooses what songs to perform from her vast catalog.
“They’re all bangers. Every last one of them. I hadn’t performed “Be Without You” in a long time, though, so that was fun to perform with the audience,” Blige recalled. “ They’re singing damn near every note. I don’t really even have to sing that.”
