Rap legend, Percy Robert Miller, better known as Master P, is doing a good deed for his home state, per TMZ.
Miller helped to revitalize the jumbotron inside of the University of New Orleans arena after the original was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago.
On Tuesday (Oct. 14), the businessman who is also the university’s President of Basketball Operations revealed the new jumbotron.
The announcement comes just days before the Privateers host an exhibition game on Saturday against Sacramento State, which is coached by basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal.
“We want to show how coming together as a community can open doors and create possibilities,” the “No Limit” label founder told TMZ about the approaching matchup.
“This is bigger than basketball; we are empowering the next generation.”
For Miller, the deed goes beyond just replacing the scoreboard. The rapper finds fulfillment in coaching the next generation of players and giving back to his community. He has a long list of initiatives aimed towards educating and creating future leaders.
In addition to being a serial entrepreneur, rapper, music producer, author, speaker and philanthropist, Miller is a former college basketball player who has coached basketball for the past two decades. His AAU team, “P. Miller’s Ballers,” won three national championships. During that time, he coached future NBA players Demar Derozan, Brandon Jennings, Lance Stephenson and Jalen Suggs. “As a kid growing up in New Orleans, I can honestly say that basketball changed and saved my life,” Miller said.
