Matthew Knowles was not feeling Tina Knowles’ name being brought up around him.
During a recent interview with WPIX 11 anchor Kendis Gibson, Matthews was promoting the “Destiny’s Child: Iconic Reimagined Tribute” show.
As the interview went on, Gibson mentioned that Tina and Mathew worked hard to turn the girl group into superstars.
Matthew asked, “What work did she put in?”
Gibson replied that it is well documented that Tina acted as the group’s stylist, hairdresser, and designed their costumes before they achieved mainstream success. She also owned her own beauty shop.
“You’ve earned your flowers. I said the same thing to Ms. Tina Knowles. You guys put in the work, and obviously the talent was there, with your kids and your grandkids,” Gibson said.
“Ok, you’re absolutely right, and the styling. The imaging. You’re right,” Mathew acknowledged.
“It’s a joint effort,” Gibson offered.
Matthew then abruptly ended the interview.
“We’ll stop now,” Matthew said as he stood up to leave the room.
“Did I say something wrong?” Gibson asked.
KNOWLES ACCUSED GIBSON OF BEING LATE TO THE INTERVIEW
Mathew then accused Gibson of being 15 minutes late, and that he kept asking questions about Tina, “when the interview was supposed to be about Destiny Child’s tribute concert.”
“How it starts is how it ends. It started on a bad note, and obviously ended on a bad note for him,” Mathew said. “I politely ended the interview, shook his hand, and took a photograph.”
A source close to the situation said that Gibson was not late for the shoot, and the crew arrived early for setup. They also “disputed that he asked several questions about Tina and echoed Gibson’s interview.”
“He was giving them their flowers,” the source said. “And he was praising them for the work they’ve done,” the source said.
After 31 years of marriage, Matthew and Tina Knowles divorced in 2011.
They are the parents of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles.
