Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion will make her Broadway debut this spring. She will join the cast of the long-running hit musical Moulin Rouge! The Musical in a lead role. The engagement runs eight weeks, beginning March 24. She will perform at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre through May 17.

Megan will assume the role billed simply as Zidler. The character was previously called Harold Zidler on stage and screen. With this casting, she becomes the first female-identifying performer to play the part in any production worldwide. Producers framed the move as part of the show’s celebratory final months on Broadway.

“An absolute honor,” Megan said in a statement. “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.” She added that Broadway requires different discipline and storytelling. “I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me,” she said.

Producer Carmen Pavlovic called the casting “a thrilling moment for us.” She praised Megan as a global superstar and cultural force. “This historic casting is a major part of our closing celebrations,” Pavlovic said. “We want our show to go out with a spectacular bang.”

What audiences can expect from Megan Thee Stallion

Moulin Rouge! blends the film’s story with a jukebox score. The stage show pairs classic and modern pop hits. Producers also signaled there may be a hint of music from Megan’s own catalogue. The musical opened on Broadway in 2019. It will end its Broadway run this summer, with a final performance scheduled for July 26.

Bob the Drag Queen concludes his engagement March 22. Megan’s run begins March 24, with the exception of May 2. Kelsie Watts takes on the role of Satine during the same period. Tickets are on sale now through official box office channels.
