Megan Thee Stallion is back under the lights of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The Grammy-winning rapper returned to the Broadway stage Thursday night after a health scare cut her performance short just two days earlier.

On Tuesday evening, the performer began feeling ill mid-show during “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” Her representative, Didier Morais, confirmed she was rushed to a local hospital for evaluation. Doctors diagnosed her with extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels. She was treated and discharged before the end of the night.

The rapper did not hold back when addressing the incident. She took to Instagram with a candid message to her fans, known as the Hotties.

“Last night was a real wake-up call for me. I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t,” she wrote.

She promised fans she would return. She kept that promise.

A Full House Awaited Her Return

Megan was greeted by a full house when she stepped back onto the stage Thursday evening. The sold-out crowd packed the theater, eager to see her bounce back. Her casting as nightclub owner Zidler sent box office numbers soaring, with grosses for the week ending March 29 reaching $1,600,037 — up nearly 40% over the previous week.

The energy inside the theater reflected just how much the moment meant. Fans who had followed the week’s events were not about to miss her return.

Her representative released a statement saying Megan was “incredibly grateful for the prayers and well-wishes from her supporters.”

A Historic Debut

Megan made her Broadway debut on March 24, stepping into the traditionally male role of Zidler at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Her run is scheduled through May 17. She made history as the first female-identifying performer to play the role — not only in the Broadway production, but in any “Moulin Rouge!” production worldwide.

Previous performers in the role include Boy George, Wayne Brady, Tituss Burgess and most recently Bob the Drag Queen. The role was originated by Tony Award winner Danny Burstein.

Megan had spoken openly about what the opportunity meant to her before the production began.

“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor. I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation, and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge,” she said in a statement.

On opening night, celebrities including Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish were among those in attendance. Megan closed out the show by proclaiming “I’m a savage” into the microphone, earning loud applause before joining the rest of the cast for a final kick line.

The three-time Grammy winner has also appeared in the 2024 “Mean Girls” film, STARZ’s “P-Valley,” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” among other projects. Her Broadway run marks the latest bold step in a creative career that continues to expand well beyond music.

She is expected to continue performing as Zidler through the spring.
