Memphis Bleek broke down how Jay-Z handled the security scare that delayed his final Yankee Stadium concert.
JAY-Z took over Yankee Stadium for an epic, three-night residency celebrating his legendary career.
Speaking to TMZ on Monday, Bleek recalled the backstage vibe during Sunday night’s hours-long standoff. He revealed that his close friend and collaborator went into “stone-faced killer” mode.
“He wasn’t talking to nobody. I had to talk to Guru. Guru was the temperature last night,” Bleek said. He referred to Jay-Z’s DJ and longtime engineer, Young Guru. “He told me, ‘Bleek, everything’s going to be alright. We prepared for this. And we’re going to shut this shit down. Tell them, people out there to shut up and be patient.’”
Bleek joked, “I said, ‘Gu, we lost our feet. What we gon’ do?’ He said, ‘Get some more D’Usse, it’ll make it all better.’”
The chaos ensued on Sunday when a crowd of ticketless fans reportedly breached a security checkpoint. This prompted Yankee Stadium officials to shut down all entrance gates.”
In a statement, Roc Nation confirmed the breach in a joint statement with the New York Yankees and Live Nation: “
On Sunday evening at various fan entrances at Yankee Stadium, hundreds of individuals in large groups — who did not have tickets to tonight’s performance — stormed over peaceful ticketholders, and in some cases, breached security.”
“As a result, gates at all entrances of the Stadium were closed for an extended period of time. With the thoughtful guidance of the NYPD, gates were reopened cautiously and carefully to ensure the safety of those inside and outside,” the statement continued.
“The Yankees, Roc Nation, and Live Nation express our deep gratitude to the NYPD and to Yankee Stadium security personnel for their leadership and direction throughout the evening, putting the welfare of attendees above all other considerations.”
