Michael B. Jordan made history by winning his first “Actor Award,” formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Award. He took home the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. The win is seen to give him major momentum ahead of the Academy Awards.
Surprised by his win for his incredible performance in Sinners, Jordan gave an emotional speech as he upset the category favorite, Timothée Chalamet.
”I don’t even know where to begin. I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Jordan said in his speech. He also said that he felt “so honoured and privileged” to have been nominated for the prestigious award.
Jordan also paid tribute to his mother for her sacrifices and for recognizing his gift as a young actor.
“Mom, thank you for driving me back and forth to New York,” Jordan said. “When we didn’t have enough money to go through the Harlem tunnel, when we were looking for gas money, parking spaces.”
Jordan also expressed his gratitude to Sinners director Ryan Coogler and his co-stars.
”Everybody that had something to do with this movie, you gave us your time and your talents and vulnerability and allowed me to do my best work,” he added.
‘SINNERS’ WINS FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A CAST
Sinners also won for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Delroy Lindo, who accepted the award on behalf of the cast, said making the film was an “incredible journey.”
“Every single day we brought ourselves, our hearts, our souls, to this endeavour,” Lindo said. “To be recognised by you all, ‘thank you’ does not come anywhere near to encompassing what we feel, the gratitude. From the bottom of our hearts, to the bottom of your hearts, thank you so much for everything.”
Sinners is heading into the Academy Awards with 16 nominations, the most nods in the history of the Oscars.
