Michael B. Jordan is set to lead and direct a new reimagining of “The Thomas Crown Affair,” stepping into a role previously made famous by Hollywood legends Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan.
Amazon MGM Studios released the first trailer for the highly anticipated project Thursday, showcasing Jordan as a wealthy businessman who moonlights as a sophisticated art thief. The upcoming film marks a significant milestone for Jordan, who has frequently described the project as a longtime passion of his. Beyond starring in the titular role, Jordan is taking the helm as director, following his successful directorial debut with “Creed III.”
The production aims to blend the luxury and suspense of the original 1968 classic and the 1999 remake with a modern, high-stakes aesthetic. The trailer gives audiences a glimpse of a worldwide game of cat and mouse. Jordan’s character travels across the globe to execute elaborate heists while navigating a blossoming and dangerous romance with an insurance investigator. While the investigator is tasked with recovering the stolen goods, she finds herself increasingly drawn to the charming criminal she is chasing. Joining Jordan is a star-studded ensemble cast.
Adria Arjona stars as the investigator, while the film features performances from Oscar nominees and winners including Lily Gladstone, Kenneth Branagh, Ruth Negga and Aubrey Plaza. The cast is rounded out by Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbæk. Adding to the film’s prestige, the score is composed by Grammy and Academy Award winner Jon Batiste. Initial footage of the heist thriller first debuted earlier this year during a presentation at CinemaCon. Attendees at the event noted the film’s balance of action-packed sequences and romantic tension.
The production appears poised to capitalize on Jordan’s status as a leading man while expanding his reputation as a filmmaker. “The Thomas Crown Affair” is currently scheduled for a wide theatrical release on March 5, 2027. Fans of the franchise can expect a sleek update to the story that emphasizes international intrigue and the complex motives behind the thefts.
Jordan said at previous events that he intended to bring a fresh perspective to the character while honoring the suave legacy of the predecessors.
