The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has hit a significant roadblock, resulting in its release date being postponed. Initially set for April 18, 2025, the film’s debut has been delayed to October 3, 2025, as producers address legal challenges requiring extensive reshoots.

According to recent reports, the filmmakers are grappling with unforeseen legal complications tied to a 1993 settlement between Michael Jackson and the family of Jordan Chandler. The settlement reportedly included a clause prohibiting the Chandlers from being mentioned or dramatized in any film. A source familiar with the production explained, “The script originally included the Chandler saga as a key component, but this clause was overlooked during initial vetting.” This revelation has necessitated a rewrite and reshoots to align with the legal restrictions.

Despite the setback, a source close to the production clarified, “The Michael Jackson biopic is not in total chaos. The film is moving forward, and reshoots are scheduled for March.” Lionsgate, the film’s distributor, and the Jackson estate have not commented on the matter.

A Star-Studded Production

The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King of Bohemian Rhapsody fame, promises to deliver a detailed portrayal of Jackson’s complex life. Jaafar Jackson, the late pop star’s nephew, takes on the lead role, embodying his uncle’s iconic persona. The cast also includes Colman Domingo and Nia Long as Jackson’s parents, Joe and Katherine, alongside Miles Teller as attorney John Branca.

An official synopsis describes the movie as presenting an “honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated” Jackson. The narrative aims to explore his triumphs and challenges while celebrating his undeniable creative genius.

While fans eagerly await its release, the additional time allows filmmakers to ensure the project meets legal and creative standards. With its new October release date, Michael aspires to capture the essence of one of music’s most legendary figures in a way that resonates with audiences worldwide.
